Great Library Memorial

Great Library Memorial, originally uploaded by jezza323.

This is another shot of Osgoode Hall. This one is a Memorial in the Great Library of the building.

This is a bit of an unusual shot for me, because it is a black and white HDR. Not something I usually would do, but I have been craving some black and white, so here some is!

Again this is 3 shots taken at +/- 2.0 EV, with the Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6. I blended the exposures using Photomatix (in colour) then made the final edits and black & white conversion in Lightroom.

Royal Ontario Museum

This is another of the main tourist attractions in Toronto. The ROM (Royal Ontario Museum) is quite large! We were expected a 2hr or so tour of the museum, however it turned into an all day trek through the place, we walked through for over 6 hours!

The museum is huge, and has a great collection of pieces and displays. I highly recommend a visit to anyone in the area.

This is a single exposure, with quite a bit of Lightroom tweaking to bring out the detail.

I am now an official Toronto resident, have moade the move here with my wife. We are settling in, and have found the time to visit a number of the tourist attractions. This is the first I will post.

Casa Loma is a gothic style home, build in the early 1900′s by a wealthy Toronto businessman. It is now a tourist attraction and museum.

I grabbed this shot as we were leaving. It is quite hard to get a good angle on the building due to the trees everywhere, but I managed to find this spot at the edge of the carpark.

This image is 3 shots, taken at +/- 2.0 EV and blended using Lightroom and the LREnfuse plugin.

Peregrine Winery, Gibbston Valley

The old building at the Peregrine Winery, Gibbston Valley, Central Otago, New Zealand.

Highly recommend their wines!

They recently built a new building to house their wine making facilities, its design is based on a Peregrine’s wing. The winery itself got its name after a family of Peregrines which live on the property.

This is a single exposure taken with my Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 and processed using Lightroom 3

Glenorchy Jetty, NZ

Glenorchy Jetty, NZ, originally uploaded by jezza323.

Looking from the end of the jetty back towards Glenorchy, south of Queenstown, in New Zealand.

Taken with Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20 f4.0-5.6, handheld

3 shots taken at +/-2.0 EV and blended using Photomatix Exposure Blend, final processing in Lightroom 3

A lot of the photos from my Queenstown honeymoon are done using exposure blending in Photomatix, the main reason for this is that with the high mountains all around and the low angle of the sun due to being so far south in the middle of the year means you have very strong shadows from the mountains falling over half of your shots, but not over the rest!

These shadows everywhere make it quite hard to prevent blown out highlights, while maintaining good detail in the darker areas of the shot. A quick swap to Bracketing mode on the camera gets 3 shots at +/- 2.0 EV, and a little extra processing results in a much better balanced final image.

This is another shot from my honeymoon in New Zealand. This was taken while on a Lord of the Rings tour as we drove down the well named “Paradise Road” which lies not far outside of the very small town of Glenorchy. Quite a few movies have had scenes filmed down this road, and I would recommend you check it out if you are in the area.

I took this with the Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 handheld, from the passenger seat of the 4wd van. The dirt road was quite rough, but I wanted to get the motion blur, so I am l lucky that I was able to get one where the distant parts of the scene are fairly sharp.

Jetty, In Colour

A nice frost covered jetty on Lake Wakatipu, just outside of Queenstown. I can say from experience that it is very slippery! This is looking over towards The Remarkables. I was lucky to get a nice smooth bit of water for some great reflections.

This is another one taken with the Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6, also used the Slik 500DX Pro tripod and remote cable release. 3 shots taken at +/- 2.0 EV and blended using Photomatix Exposure Blender, final processing in Lightroom 3

Queenstown Skyline

Queenstown Skyline, originally uploaded by jezza323.

Taken from the lookout above Queenstown, this gives an idea of the amazing scenery here. The range in front is “The Remarkables”, the lake is “Lake Wakatipu” and the town is Queenstown itself.

Taken with Pentax K200D and Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 hand held. Blended from 3 shots at +/- 2.0 EV using Photomatix Exposure Blender, final processing in Lightroom 3

On the 26th of June 2010, I was married to my lovely wife, Kim. On the 27th of June, we jumped a plane across the ditch to New Zealand for our honeymoon. We chose Queenstown as our destination and it was amazing. I took about 10gb of photos all up, and had a great time. This is one of my favourites.

This is taken with my Pentax K200D, my recently acquired Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6, my Slik 500DX Pro tripod, a remote cable release and a cheap Citiwide branded 77mm Infrared 720nm filter. It was processed in Lightroom 3 and came out with some really great contrast.
